Radha Soami Satsang Beas - Charity Work

Charity Work

The Beas ashram, known simply as "the Dera," maintains a free kitchen, langar (as well as canteens and snack bars at a nominal price).

Three charitable hospitals were built and are run by RSSB. The Beas Hospital, Sikanderpur Hospital, and Bhota Hospital provide free medical care for the surrounding rural community and aid the needy. Services include free accommodation for relatives of patients. In the past, the Society also ran an annual eye surgery clinic at the Dera.

RSSB has also helped in relief efforts for victims of natural disasters.

Famous quotes containing the words charity work, charity and/or work:

Reputation is not of enough value to sacrifice character for it.
—“Miss Clark,” U.S. charity worker. As quoted in Petticoat Surgeon, ch. 9, by Bertha Van Hoosen (1947)

The appalling thing is the degree of charity women are capable of. You see it all the time ... love lavished on absolute fools. Love’s a charity ward, you know.
    Lawrence Durrell (1912–1990)

The work of adult life is not easy. As in childhood, each step presents not only new tasks of development but requires a letting go of the techniques that worked before. With each passage some magic must be given up, some cherished illusion of safety and comfortably familiar sense of self must be cast off, to allow for the greater expansion of our distinctiveness.
    Gail Sheehy (20th century)
