Queenswood School - History

History

Queenswood was founded in 1894 by two Methodist ministers and its first headmistress was Miss Waller. Originally, the school was located in Clapham, London, but it was moved to Hertfordshire in 1925. As it was originally located in Clapham there are now two houses called Clapham North and Clapham South.

Today, Queenswood caters to over 400 girls, half of whom are boarders. Approximately 20% are international students.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Both place and time were changed, and I dwelt nearer to those parts of the universe and to those eras in history which had most attracted me.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

When we of the so-called better classes are scared as men were never scared in history at material ugliness and hardship; when we put off marriage until our house can be artistic, and quake at the thought of having a child without a bank-account and doomed to manual labor, it is time for thinking men to protest against so unmanly and irreligious a state of opinion.
    William James (1842–1910)

Look through the whole history of countries professing the Romish religion, and you will uniformly find the leaven of this besetting and accursed principle of action—that the end will sanction any means.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)
