Queens Village (LIRR Station) - History

History

Queens Village station originally opened at ground level as Queens station in 1879 (some sources say 1881). The original station house contained a sign with the distance to Long Island City and Greenport stations. The station house was moved to a private location as a new one was being built as part of a grade elimination project, and opened on September 24, 1924. It was then renamed "Queens Village."

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Gossip is charming! History is merely gossip. But scandal is gossip made tedious by morality.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

The history of all countries shows that the working class exclusively by its own effort is able to develop only trade-union consciousness.
    Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (1870–1924)

All history attests that man has subjected woman to his will, used her as a means to promote his selfish gratification, to minister to his sensual pleasures, to be instrumental in promoting his comfort; but never has he desired to elevate her to that rank she was created to fill. He has done all he could to debase and enslave her mind; and now he looks triumphantly on the ruin he has wrought, and say, the being he has thus deeply injured is his inferior.
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)
