Queen Anne's Bounty Act 1714

The Queen Anne’s Bounty Act 1714 (c 19) is an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain. It is one of the Queen Anne's Bounty Acts 1706 to 1870.

The long title of the Act is:

An Act for making more effectual her late Majesties gracious Intention for augmenting the Maintenance of the Poor Clergy.

The Act gave augmented churches legal personality as corporations. Although partially repealed, much of the Act is still in force today.

Famous quotes containing the words queen, bounty and/or act:

Most Gracious Queen, we thee implore
To go away and sin no more,
But if that effort be too great,
To go away at any rate.
—Anonymous. “On Queen Caroline,” in Diary and Correspondence of Lord Colchester (1861)

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep. The more I give to thee
The more I have, for both are infinite.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

It is not book-learning young men need, nor instruction about this and that, but a stiffening of the vertebrae which will cause them to be loyal to a trust, to act promptly, concentrate their energies: do the thing—”Carry a message to Garcia!”
    Elbert Hubbard (1856–1915)
