N Variables Case

In the general case, a quadratic polynomial in n variables x1, ..., xn can be written in the form

\sum_{i, j = 1}^{n} Q_{i,j} x_i x_j + \sum_{i = 1}^{n} P_i x_i + R

where Q is a symmetric n-dimensional matrix, P is an n-dimensional vector, and R a constant.

Famous quotes containing the words variables and/or case:

Science is feasible when the variables are few and can be enumerated; when their combinations are distinct and clear. We are tending toward the condition of science and aspiring to do it. The artist works out his own formulas; the interest of science lies in the art of making science.
    Paul Valéry (1871–1945)

[The boss] asked me if I was not interested in a change in my life. I answered that one can never change lives, that in any case all lives were the same, and that I was not at all unhappy with mine.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
