Qa'a - Reign

Reign

There is not much information left about Qa'a´s reign, but it seems that he reigned for a long time (around 33 years). Several stone vessel inscriptions mention a second Sed festival for Qa'a which points to at least 33 years of reign. Indeed, the first festival is usually not celebrated before 30 years of reign, and subsequent festivals can be repeated every third year. The Cairo Stone inscription only mention the usual cultic events that were celebrated under every king and the numerous ivory tags dating to his reign also mention only typical arrangements, such as depicting and counting burial offerings and personal posessings of the king. Several mastaba tombs of high officials date into Qa'a´s reign: Merka (S3505), Henuka (burial unknown), Neferef (burial also unknown) and Sabef (buried in the royal necropolis of Qa'a).

Famous quotes containing the word reign:

No one would have doubted his ability to reign had he never been emperor.
    Tacitus (c. 55–c. 120)

Without poets, without artists, men would soon weary of nature’s monotony. The sublime idea men have of the universe would collapse with dizzying speed. The order which we find in nature, and which is only an effect of art, would at once vanish. Everything would break up in chaos. There would be no seasons, no civilization, no thought, no humanity; even life would give way, and the impotent void would reign everywhere.
    Guillaume Apollinaire (1880–1918)

See how peaceful it is here. The sea is everything. An immense reservoir of nature where I roam at will.... Think of it. On the surface there is hunger and fear. Men still exercise unjust laws. They fight, tear one another to pieces. A mere few feet beneath the waves their reign ceases, their evil drowns. Here on the ocean floor is the only independence. Here I am free.
Earl Felton, and Richard Fleischer. Captain Nemo (James Mason)
