Putnam High School - Academics and Programs

Academics and Programs

During 2009-2010, a number of representatives from local organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the Connecticut Juvenile Justice System and the Department of Children and Families presented preventative material on issues such as dating violence, internet safety, domestic abuse and bullying. These proactive measures are to help students understand and respect themselves and those around them as well as develop effective interpersonal skills.

Putnam High School is involved in several multi-district programs intended to provide opportunities for Putnam students to interact with students of different racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Through the local Lions Club in Putnam a Leo’s club was established which includes students from Putnam High School, Woodstock Academy and the Putnam Science Academy.

Putnam High School also promotes student interaction through programs that explore such topics as individual learning styles, personality types and relevant careers for each type as well as the motivational styles of each learner. These programs work to identify the best academic arena for each of the students to succeed. Other programs present preventative information on topics such as anger management, coping with stress and suicide prevention.

Famous quotes containing the words academics and/or programs:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

[The Republicans] offer ... a detailed agenda for national renewal.... [On] reducing illegitimacy ... the state will use ... funds for programs to reduce out-of-wedlock pregnancies, to promote adoption, to establish and operate children’s group homes, to establish and operate residential group homes for unwed mothers, or for any purpose the state deems appropriate. None of the taxpayer funds may be used for abortion services or abortion counseling.
    Newt Gingrich (b. 1943)
