Puthoor

Puthoor is a major city located 26 kilometers (16 mi) from Kollam City in Kollam District, Kerala, India.It is one of the biggest trading centres of south India. Puthoor town is the main shopping hub for a number of satellite areas in and around. This big town hosts some of the widely known the famous Cheriyil Devi Temple and Christian churches. . Puthoor has a good number of cashew factories which processes cashew nut and exporting to foreign countries. Puthoor also has many brick factories mainly located in Cherupoika. Politically it is a Congress stronghold, but there were occasions when communist groups won elections as well. This small town is congested with narrow roads and unorganised traffic system and street vendors in the evening trading hours.

The Puthoor market attracts people from long distance to trade various agricultural products. There are large areas of paddy cultivation rendered useless without activity. This small town is now on the verge of industrialisation. There are tourist attractions in Puthoor such as the old shrines including Ullirippil Kavu, Kaniyapoyka Temple, the Mylamkulam Rock, thazhum, njankadavu, and attuvassey.
