Punjabi Diaspora - United Kingdom

United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, around two-thirds of direct migrants (excluding South Asians that immigrated from the Caribbean, Fiji and other regions) from South Asia were Punjabi. The remaining third is mostly Marwaris and Bengali. They form a majority of both the South Asian British Sikh and Muslim communities.

Most "twice-migrants" were also Punjabi or Marwaris.

Famous quotes containing the words united and/or kingdom:

The parallel between antifeminism and race prejudice is striking. The same underlying motives appear to be at work, namely fear, jealousy, feelings of insecurity, fear of economic competition, guilt feelings, and the like. Many of the leaders of the feminist movement in the nineteenth-century United States clearly understood the similarity of the motives at work in antifeminism and race discrimination and associated themselves with the anti slavery movement.
    Ashley Montagu (b. 1905)

How we dwelt in two worlds
    the daughters and the mothers
in the kingdom of the sons.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
