Punch (tool) - Prick

Prick

A prick punch is similar to a centre punch but used for marking out. It has a sharper angled tip to produce a narrower and deeper point. It is also known as a Dot punch. The mark can then be enlarged with a centre punch for drilling.

Famous quotes containing the word prick:

Have we no culture, no refinement,—but skill only to live coarsely and serve the Devil?—to acquire a little worldly wealth, or fame, or liberty, and make a false show with it, as if we were all husk and shell, with no tender and living kernel to us? Shall our institutions be like those chestnut burs which contain abortive nuts, perfect only to prick the fingers?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

O if we but knew what we do
    When we delve or hew—
Hack and rack the growing green!
    Since country is so tender
To touch, her being so slender,
That, like this sleek and seeing ball
But a prick will make no eye at all,
Where we, even where we mean
To mend her we end her,
    When we hew or delve:
After-comers cannot guess the beauty been.
    Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–1889)

    When you have our roses,
You barely leave our thorns to prick ourselves,
And mock us with our bareness.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
