In 1967, the NSW government recommenced construction on the dormant Eastern Suburbs line that had been partly constructed and had lain dormant since 1952. In 1976, the project was curtailed to Bondi Junction, and the full line to Kingsford was not constructed.

Famous quotes containing the words eastern and/or suburbs:

My second husband was an American. We traveled all over the world and everywhere we went he would say to people, “I am an American. I am an American.” They finally shot him in one of those Eastern countries.
    John Paxton (1911–1985)

The system was breaking down. The one who had wandered alone past so many happenings and events began to feel, backing up along the primal vein that led to his center, the beginning of hiccup that would, if left to gather, explode the center to the extremities of life, the suburbs through which one makes one’s way to where the country is.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
