Proposed Melbourne Rail Extensions

Proposed Melbourne Rail Extensions

Several proposals have been put forward by various groups to expand the Melbourne rail network—proposals for additional rail lines, extensions to existing lines, as well as electrification to existing lines and new stations on existing lines. Some of these plans were so seriously considered at various times that they appeared in the Melway street directory, and on suburban train destination rolls. As of November 2006 a number of these plans continue to be discussed by the Department of Infrastructure, local councils, the Victorian Labor Party, Victorian Greens, and several other groups.

Famous quotes containing the words proposed, rail and/or extensions:

On the 31st of August, 1846, I left Concord in Massachusetts for Bangor and the backwoods of Maine,... I proposed to make excursions to Mount Ktaadn, the second highest mountain in New England, about thirty miles distant, and to some of the lakes of the Penobscot, either alone or with such company as I might pick up there.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

For this is the mark of a wise and upright man, not to rail against the gods in misfortune.
    Aeschylus (525–456 B.C.)

If we focus exclusively on teaching our children to read, write, spell, and count in their first years of life, we turn our homes into extensions of school and turn bringing up a child into an exercise in curriculum development. We should be parents first and teachers of academic skills second.
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
