Famous quotes containing the word society:

It is difficult to generalize why so many Latino/as moved toward conservative ... views.... for many, I believe it is basically a matter of desiring material acquisitions. It is difficult to maintain a collective ideology in a society where possessions and power-status equal self-worth.
    Ana Castillo (b. 1953)

A society in which everyone works is not necessarily a free society and may indeed be a slave society; on the other hand, a society in which there is widespread economic insecurity can turn freedom into a barren and vapid right for the millions of people.
    Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

One ought not to hoard culture. It should be adapted and infused into society as a leaven. Liberality of culture does not mean illiberality of its benefits.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
