Prometheus Radio Project V. FCC - Prometheus Radio Project

Prometheus Radio Project

The Prometheus Radio Project was founded in 1998 by activists working within social change movements such as housing, environmentalism, health care, anti-war, and criminal justice reform. Beginning as a group of pirate radio stations, the group of LPFM radio stations worked together to serve local communities with diverse media views. They also pressured the FCC on various issues related to media reform, such as the Prometheus Radio Project v. FCC case. The stated mission of the group is to strengthen communities through media, and to “demystify media policy and technology and advocate for a more just media system.” The stated vision involves a free media that does not limit democracy, and puts media in the hands of the people.

Famous quotes containing the words prometheus, radio and/or project:

Man, became man through work, who stepped out of the animal kingdom as transformer of the natural into the artificial, who became therefore the magician, man the creator of social reality, will always stay the great magician, will always be Prometheus bringing fire from heaven to earth, will always be Orpheus enthralling nature with his music. Not until humanity itself dies will art die.
    Ernst Fischer (1899–1972)

Having a thirteen-year-old in the family is like having a general-admission ticket to the movies, radio and TV. You get to understand that the glittering new arts of our civilization are directed to the teen-agers, and by their suffrage they stand or fall.
    Max Lerner (b. 1902)

Oh Death he is a little man,
And he goes from do’ to do’ ...
—Federal Writers’ Project Of The Wor, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
