Pro Co RAT

Pro Co RAT

The Pro Co "The RAT" is a guitar effects pedal produced by Pro Co Sound. The original RAT was developed in the basement of Pro Co's Kalamazoo, Michigan facility in 1978. Numerous variations of the original RAT pedal are still being produced today.

The basic RAT has changed in appearance over the years, but its tone has remained largely the same, although there is a general consensus that the mid-1980s versions are superior sonically. Pro Co has also introduced tonal variations of the RAT, including the Turbo RAT, and You Dirty RAT, among others.

The Pro Co RAT became very popular in the early 1980s, thanks in part to notoriety gained by its use by artists such as Jeff Beck and Joe Walsh. Since that time, the RAT has been used by some of the most influential guitarists in the world. This list includes Francis Dunnery, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Matt Bellamy, David Gilmour, Kevin Eubanks, Thom Yorke, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, James Dean Bradfield, John Christ, Dave Grohl, Justin Chancellor, Kevin Shields, Andy Summers, Thurston Moore, Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg of Pavement, Ichirou Agata of Melt-Banana, Paul Reynolds of A Flock of Seagulls, Graham Coxon, Bernard Butler, Alex Turner, Jerry Cantrell, Peter Buck, Nuno Bettencourt, Paranoid Time, James Hetfield, Joe Perry, Buzz Osborne, Sunn O))), Justin Shekoski, Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Sonny Sharrock,, Nels Cline of Wilco and John Linger of Neils Children.

Famous quotes containing the words pro and/or rat:

The upbeat lawyer/negotiator of preadolescence has become a real pro by now—cynical, shrewd, a tough cookie. You’re constantly embroiled in a match of wits. You’re exhausted.
    Ron Taffel (20th century)

Myths and legends die hard in America. We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men’s reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of “the rat race” is not yet final.
    Hunter S. Thompson (b. 1939)
