Prison Advice and Care Trust - Visitors' Centres

Visitors' Centres

Not every prison has a visitors' centre, and of those that do, some are run by the prison itself and some are run by independent voluntary organisations such as pact. pact runs visitors' centres at 14 prisons across the England. The centres are for prisoners' families, friends, and legal visitors - anyone who is visiting an inmate at that prison. The aim of pact visitors' centres is to provide information, support and advice, and a safe, child-friendly environment where people can wait and relax. Their centres are staffed by a combination of paid staff and volunteers.

Famous quotes containing the word centres:

We all have—to put it as nicely as I can—our lower centres and our higher centres. Our lower centres act: they act with terrible power that sometimes destroys us; but they don’t talk.... Since the war the lower centres have become vocal. And the effect is that of an earthquake. For they speak truths that have never been spoken before—truths that the makers of our domestic institutions have tried to ignore.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
