Marriage and Children

On 4 January 2010, Princess Nathalie's engagement to German horse breeder Alexander Johannsmann, (b. 6 December 1977), son of showjumper Heinrich-Wilhelm Johannsmann, was announced. The couple married civilly 27 May 2010 and religiously the following year, on 18 June 2011 at Berleburg in Germany. The bride wore an ivory satin gown by Danish designer Henrik Hviid, with the traditional Danish Royal family antique Irish lace veil and the Cartier Khedive-of-Egypt tiara.

Princess Nathalie gave birth to a son, Konstantin Gustav Heinrich Richard on 24 July 2010. He is named Konstantin for Nathalie's father's middle name, and for uncle King Constantine of Greece; Gustav for her brother; Heinrich for Alexander's father and Richard for Nathalie's father. Konstantin's godparents were Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, his aunt Ann-Kathrin Johannsmann, and his uncle Prince Gustav.

Famous quotes containing the words marriage and/or children:

Yes, marriage is hateful, detestable. A kind of ineffable, sickening disgust seizes my mind when I think of this most despotic, most unrequited fetter which prejudice has forged to confine its energies.
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

Could it be that those who were reared in the postwar years really were spoiled, as we used to hear? Did a child-centered generation, raised in depression and war, produce a self-centered generation that resents children and parenthood?
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
