On 13 March 1879, Princess Luise Margarete married Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn at St. George's Chapel Windsor. Prince Arthur was the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The couple got a great number of expensive gifts; the Queen's gift, for instance, consisted of a magnificent diamond tiara, a pearl and diamond penchant, among other items. Many members of England and Germany's royal families attended, such as the Prince and Princess of Wales. After her marriage, she was styled Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Connaught and her name was anglicised as Louise Margaret.

Famous quotes containing the word marriage:

A woman asking “Am I good? Am I satisfied?” is extremely selfish. The less women fuss about themselves, the less they talk to other women, the more they try to please their husbands, the happier the marriage is going to be.
    Barbara Cartland (b. 1901)

Worst, when this sensualism intrudes into the education of young women, and withers the hope and affection of human nature, by teaching that marriage signifies nothing but a housewife’s thrift, and that woman’s life has no other aim.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

In all perception of the truth there is a divine ecstasy, an inexpressible delirium of joy, as when a youth embraces his betrothed virgin. The ultimate delights of a true marriage are one with this.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
