Princess Elisabeth of Belgium - Education and Royal Duties

Education and Royal Duties

Princess Elisabeth is currently a student at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Marolles, Brussels, which was attended previously by her older cousins, the children of her aunt Princess Astrid. This is a significant change in the habits of the royal family, as it is the first time that a future Belgian monarch's education has begun in Dutch. Elisabeth also attends dance classes conducted in Dutch at the Municipal Music Academy in Asse, in Flemish Brabant.

The princess attended her first official royal duty in 2006 when she was present at the Te Deum in honour of Belgian National Day. In 2007, she accompanied her father to the opening of a Science Museum. She also attended the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition and the presentation at the Royal Palace of a model of the Belgian Antarctic station which bears her name, the Princess Elisabeth Base.

Famous quotes containing the words education and, education, royal and/or duties:

I say that male and female are cast in the same mold; except for education and habits, the difference is not great.

I envy neither the heart nor the head of any legislator who has been born to an inheritance of privileges, who has behind him ages of education, dominion, civilization, and Christianity, if he stands opposed to the passage of a national education bill, whose purpose is to secure education to the children of those who were born under the shadow of institutions which made it a crime to read.
    Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825–1911)

The captain sat in a commodore’s hat
And dined in a royal way
On toasted pigs and pickles and figs
    And gummery bread each day.
    Charles Edward Carryl (1841–1920)

I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge my duties as King as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love.... I now quit altogether public affairs, and I lay down my burden.
    Edward VIII (1894–1972)
