Prince Leopold of Bavaria (b. 1943) - Marriage

Marriage

On 21 October 1977 Prince Leopold married Ursula (Uschi) Möhlenkamp, the daughter of Wilhelm (Willi) Möhlenkamp and Ingeborg Brauckmann. The civil ceremony took place at Berg on Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. The religious ceremony followed a month later, on 19 November 1977 in Aufkirchen, Bavaria. Initially the union was considered morganatic, but on 3 March 1999 the marriage was decreed to be conditionally dynastic in accordance with the Bavarian house laws. Since his son Manuel married dynastically, he is kept in line of succession. The couple have four children:

  • Prince Manuel of Bavaria (b. out of wedlock in 1972)
  • Princess Maria del Pilar of Bavaria (b. 1978)
  • Princess Maria Felipa of Bavaria (b. 1981)
  • Prince Konstantin of Bavaria (b. 1986)

Famous quotes containing the word marriage:

Who of us is mature enough for offspring before the offspring themselves arrive? The value of marriage is not that adults produce children but that children produce adults.
    Peter De Vries (20th century)

The reason why women effect so little and are so shallow is because their aims are low, marriage is the prize for which they strive; if foiled in that they rarely rise above disappointment ... [ellipsis in source]
    Sarah M. Grimke (1792–1873)

We have seen that men are learning that work, productivity, and marriage may be very important parts of life, but they are not its whole cloth. The rest of the fabric is made of nurturing relationships, especially those with children—relationships which are intimate, trusting, humane, complex, and full of care.
    Kyle D. Pruett (20th century)
