There is an increasing number of women receiving Ph.D’s in the study of Primatology. According to Londa Schiebinger, writing in 2001, estimated that made up 80 percent of graduate students pursuing Ph.D’s in primatology. Because of the high number of women, Londa Schiebinger asserted that “Primatology is widely celebrated as a feminist science”. In the 1970s 50 percent Ph.D’s in primatology were awarded to women.
