Presidential $1 Coin Program - Other Provisions

Other Provisions

The act also has two other provisions, for:

  • Issuance of a $50 bullion coin reproducing the 1913 Buffalo nickel designed by James Earle Fraser. See American Buffalo (coin)
  • Redesign of the reverse of the Lincoln cent in 2009 to show four different scenes from Abraham Lincoln's life in honor of the bicentennial of his birth. These four scenes include:
    1. his birth and early childhood in Kentucky;
    2. his formative years in Indiana;
    3. his professional life in Illinois; and
    4. his presidency in Washington, D.C.

In 2009, numismatic cents which have the metallic copper content of cents minted in 1909 were issued for collectors.

After 2009, another redesigned reverse for the Lincoln cent will be minted; this "shall bear an image emblematic of President Lincoln's preservation of the United States of America as a single and united country," and will replace the Lincoln Memorial reverse in use from 1959 to 2008.

Famous quotes containing the word provisions:

    Drinking tents were full, glasses began to clink in carriages, hampers to be unpacked, tempting provisions to be set forth, knives and forks to rattle, champagne corks to fly, eyes to brighten that were not dull before, and pickpockets to count their gains during the last heat. The attention so recently strained on one object of interest, was now divided among a hundred; and, look where you would, there was a motley assemblage of feasting, talking, begging, gambling and mummery.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)

    Perhaps it is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad.
    James Madison (1751–1836)
