A premium station is a category of railway station on Melbourne's Metro Rail Network which is operated by Metro Trains Melbourne. In terms of station standards, a premium station is a high standard station which sits above the medium standard host stations and the low standard unmanned stations.
Each premium station has:
- Staff who are available, from the beginning to the end of daily train service, for ticket sales (including concession cards and V/Line tickets), answering of customer queries, and general running of the station (including, for example, bookings for bicycle locker hire).
- A high standard of passenger amenities such as open male, female and disabled toilets, CCTV cameras, bright lighting, bicycle cages and lockers, an enclosed waiting room and at some stations, newspaper and snack kiosks.
The premium station program was commenced in 1994 under the Public Transport Corporation., with Mount Waverley being the first station receiving premium status. By the end of 1995 the number of staffed stations increased from 35 to 51.
The five City Loop stations (Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Flagstaff, Melbourne Central, and Parliament) are all premium stations. Other stations are assigned premium status based mainly on their level of patronage or their safeworking facilities.
Including the five City Loop stations, there are 79 premium stations, as listed below:

Famous quotes containing the words premium and/or station:
“In taking out an insurance policy one pays for it in dollars and cents, always at liberty to discontinue payments. If, however, womans premium is a husband, she pays for it with her name, her privacy, her self-respect, her very life, until death doth part.”
—Emma Goldman (18691940)
“To act the part of a true friend requires more conscientious feeling than to fill with credit and complacency any other station or capacity in social life.”
—Sarah Ellis (18121872)
