Premier of Manitoba

The Premier of Manitoba is the first minister for the Canadian province of Manitoba. He or she is the province's head of government and de facto chief executive. Until the early 1970s, the title "Prime Minister of Manitoba" was used frequently. Afterwards, the word Premier, derived from the French word for "first" was used more commonly. The Premier receives his commission to form a government from the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, who represents the Queen at the provincial level.

The current Premier of Manitoba is Greg Selinger of the New Democratic Party, who was sworn in on October 19, 2009.
