Prada - Japan Controversy

Japan Controversy

On 26 October 2012, Prada Japan prevailed in a lawsuit filed by ex-manager Rina Bovrisee. Bovrisee had been told by Prada Japan President Davide Sesia and human resources manager Hiroyuki Takahashi in September 2009 that she needed to lose weight and change her style to the "Prada look." Prada Japan then fired Bovrisse in March 2010 after she complained about the directive in a an article published that month in the Japan Times. Bovrisse sued Prada Japan for ¥58 million for emotional stress and sexual harassment. In its ruling, the Tokyo District Court, presided by lead judge Reiko Morioka, stated that, "It may be insensitive for the president to tell an employee (to lose weight), but considering the nature of Prada's business (and other factors), it cannot be recognized that it is bad enough to cause emotional distress worth compensation." Prada has countersued Bovrisee for ¥33 million for "harming its image."

Famous quotes containing the words japan and/or controversy:

I do not know that the United States can save civilization but at least by our example we can make people think and give them the opportunity of saving themselves. The trouble is that the people of Germany, Italy and Japan are not given the privilege of thinking.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)
