Famous quotes containing the words hymn, port and/or blacksmith:

    The starting point of the human and the end,
    That in which space itself is contained, the gate
    To the enclosure, day, the things illumined
    By day, night and that which night illumines,
    Night and its midnight-minting fragrances,
    Night’s hymn of the rock, as in a vivid sleep.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
    The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
    The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
    While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
    But O heart! heart! heart!
    O the bleeding drops of red,
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

    The blacksmith dropped his hammer, the carpenter his plane, the mason his trowel, the farmer his sickle, the baker his loaf, and the tapster his bottle. All were off for the mines, some on horses, some on carts, and some on crutches, and one went in a litter.
