Music

All kinds of music can be found in Brisbane's thriving live scene, from Dance to Rock, Pop and Hip hop. Most venues are found in the Valley and surrounding areas since the popular Mary St and Brisbane Festival Hall city venues were closed. Notable venues in the Valley include The Troubadour, The Zoo, Rics Cafe, The Arena, The Tivoli, The Fort, The Step Inn, The Empire Hotel and The Press Club. The Rev closed down in September 2006. The Alley Bar closed down in March 2008.

Brisbane is home to a number of music festivals including Soundwave, St Jerome's Laneway Festival and Valley Fiesta. Livid was an alternative rock music festival held annually from 1989 to 2003.

Brisbane's live music scene has long been supported by independent record stores such as Rocking Horse Records, Kill the Music and Skinny's Music, and Brisbane music can be seen and heard online at Before Hollywood or Raw Audio - online TV for Brisbane Music. Rave Magazine has covering the entertainment scene in Brisbane for many years.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

We often love to think now of the life of men on beaches,—at least in midsummer, when the weather is serene; their sunny lives on the sand, amid the beach-grass and bayberries, their companion a cow, their wealth a jag of driftwood or a few beach plums, and their music the surf and the peep of the beech-bird.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Noble and wise men once believed in the music of the spheres: noble and wise men still continue to believe in the “moral significance of existence.” But one day even this sphere-music will no longer be audible to them! They will wake up and take note that their ears were dreaming.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

When in our music God is glorified,
and adoration leaves no room for pride,
it is as though the whole creation cried Alleluia!
    Frederick Pratt Green (b. 1903)
