Pope Peter IV of Alexandria

As a Miaphysite, Peter IV was forced to stay out of Alexandria.

Famous quotes containing the words pope and/or peter:

Is this a dinner? this a genial room?
No, ‘tis a temple, and a hecatomb.
A solemn sacrifice, performed in state,
You drink by measure, and to minutes eat.
    —Alexander Pope (1688–1744)

That matches are made in heaven, may be, but my wife would have been just the wife for Peter the Great, or Peter Piper. How would she have set in order that huge littered empire of the one, and with indefatigable painstaking picked the peck of pickled peppers for the other.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
