Ponderosa Pine in The Salt Cabin Park Exclosure Area - History

History

The history of the Salt Cabin Park Exclosure area consists of grazing that started in the late 1800s. In 1926, the forest service opened up the area to grazing again from June 1 until October 15 with 800 assets under management (AUM). This overgrazing caused the range condition to be fair-poor. Presently, the forest service allows grazing in the area from the June 15 until September 30 with 140 AUM. This is significantly less than in 1926. Also, because there are fewer cows, the range condition is good with a productivity of 600 kg/ha. Fifty elk (Cervus elaphus) also graze in this area for eight months out of the year, which equates to 40 AUM.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

What you don’t understand is that it is possible to be an atheist, it is possible not to know if God exists or why He should, and yet to believe that man does not live in a state of nature but in history, and that history as we know it now began with Christ, it was founded by Him on the Gospels.
    Boris Pasternak (1890–1960)

Humankind has understood history as a series of battles because, to this day, it regards conflict as the central facet of life.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

Regarding History as the slaughter-bench at which the happiness of peoples, the wisdom of States, and the virtue of individuals have been victimized—the question involuntarily arises—to what principle, to what final aim these enormous sacrifices have been offered.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
