Famous quotes containing the words limitations of, limitations, pays and/or principle:

The limitations of pleasure cannot be overcome by more pleasure.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

To note an artist’s limitations is but to define his talent. A reporter can write equally well about everything that is presented to his view, but a creative writer can do his best only with what lies within the range and character of his deepest sympathies.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)

A man must thank his defects, and stand in some terror of his talents. A transcendent talent draws so largely on his forces as to lame him; a defect pays him revenues on the other side.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The principle of fashion is ... the principle of the kaleidoscope. A new year can only bring us a new combination of the same elements; and about once in so often we go back and begin again.
    Katharine Fullerton Gerould (1879–1944)
