Political Divisions Of Taiwan

The Republic of China (ROC), commonly known as Taiwan, currently governs the Taiwan Area, consisting of the four main archipelagos of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu and some minor islands. The whole country is divided into two diminished provinces (Taiwan Province and Fujian Province) and five special municipalities (Kaohsiung, New Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Taipei). The two streamlined provinces are further subdivided into 3 provincial cities and 14 counties. All special municipalities, provincial cities and counties are directly under the central government (i.e., Executive Yuan).

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or divisions:

Long before Einstein told us that matter is energy, Machiavelli and Hobbes and other modern political philosophers defined man as a lump of matter whose most politically relevant attribute is a form of energy called “self-interestedness.” This was not a portrait of man “warts and all.” It was all wart.
    George F. Will (b. 1941)

I find myself ... hoping a total end of all the unhappy divisions of mankind by party-spirit, which at best is but the madness of many for the gain of a few.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
