Polish Capture of Kiev

Throughout the Central European history, the Polish forces entered the city of Kiev twice:

  • Polish capture of Kiev (1018), during the Boleslaus' Kiev Expedition in favour of Sviatopolk I of Kiev
  • Polish capture of Kiev (1920), during the Kiev Offensive, a part of the Polish-Bolshevik War

Famous quotes containing the words polish and/or capture:

Take a commonplace, clean it and polish it, light it so that it produces the same effect of youth and freshness and originality and spontaneity as it did originally, and you have done a poet’s job. The rest is literature.
    Jean Cocteau (1889–1963)

Not even the visionary or mystical experience ever lasts very long. It is for art to capture that experience, to offer it to, in the case of literature, its readers; to be, for a secular, materialist culture, some sort of replacement for what the love of god offers in the world of faith.
    Salman Rushdie (b. 1947)
