Plymouth Moor View (UK Parliament Constituency)

Plymouth, Moor View is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Following the review by the Boundary Commission for England into parliamentary representation in Devon, constituencies in Plymouth have been reorganised. This is one of two new seats, the other being Plymouth Sutton and Devonport. The seat is largely the successor to the former Plymouth Devonport constituency.

Famous quotes containing the words plymouth, moor, view and/or parliament:

In clear weather the laziest may look across the Bay as far as Plymouth at a glance, or over the Atlantic as far as human vision reaches, merely raising his eyelids; or if he is too lazy to look after all, he can hardly help hearing the ceaseless dash and roar of the breakers. The restless ocean may at any moment cast up a whale or a wrecked vessel at your feet. All the reporters in the world, the most rapid stenographers, could not report the news it brings.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The Moor is of a free and open nature,
That thinks men honest that but seem to be so,
And will as tenderly be led by the nose
    As asses are.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

I do not approve the extermination of the enemy; the policy of exterminating or, as it is barbarously said, liquidating enemies, is one of the most alarming developments of modern war and peace, from the point of view of those who desire the survival of culture. One needs the enemy.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

What is the historical function of Parliament in this country? It is to prevent the Government from governing.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
