Steps in Plant Transformation
- Propagate binary vector in E. coli
- Isolate binary vector from E.coli and engineer (introduce a foreign gene)
- Re-introduce engineered binary vector into E. coli to amplify
- Isolate engineered binary vector and introduce into Agrobacteria containing a modified (relatively small) Ti plasmid
- Infect plant tissue with engineered Agrobacteria (T-DNA containing the foreign gene gets inserted into a plant cell genome)
- In each cell T-DNA gets integrated at a different site in the genome
- Note: There are many variations to these steps. A custom DNA plasmid sequence can be created and replicated in more than one way.

Famous quotes containing the words steps and/or plant:
“Every child has an inner timetable for growtha pattern unique to him. . . . Growth is not steady, forward, upward progression. It is instead a switchback trail; three steps forward, two back, one around the bushes, and a few simply standing, before another forward leap.”
—Dorothy Corkville Briggs (20th century)
“It were as wise to cast a violet into a crucible that you might discover the formal principle of its colour and odour, as seek to transfuse from one language into another the creations of a poet. The plant must spring again from its seed, or it will bear no flowerand this is the burthen of the curse of Babel.”
—Percy Bysshe Shelley (17921822)
