Future
Pirs is scheduled to be detached from the nadir (bottom) port of the Zvezda module to make room for the Russian Multipurpose Laboratory Module Nauka, scheduled for launch no earlier than May 2013 as of March 2011. When that happens Pirs could become the first permanent ISS module to be decommissioned, and would be destroyed during atmospheric re-entry.

Famous quotes containing the word future:
“In no nation are the institutions of progress more advanced. In no nation are the fruits of accomplishment more secure. In no nation is the government more worthy of respect. No country is more loved by its people. I have an abiding faith in their capacity, integrity and high purpose. I have no fears for the future of our country. It is bright with hope.”
—Herbert Hoover (1874–1964)
“I shall soon be six-and-twenty. Is there anything in the future that can possibly console us for not being always twenty-five?”
—George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)
“We stand at once the wonder and admiration of the whole world, and we must enquire what it is that has given us so much prosperity, and we shall understand that to give up that one thing, would be to give up all future prosperity. This cause is that every man can make himself.”
—Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
