Pirro comes from the historical figure Pyrros (Pirro was Pyrros also known as Pyrrhus, a general and statesman of the Hellenistic era. (Pyrros; 319/318 BC–272 BC) Pyrrhus/Pirro was King of the Epirus and Sicily. He was the son of Aeacides. Pirro was invited into Sicily by the Sicilians in order to drive out the Romans and the Carthagenians, becoming, essentially, King of Sicily. It is here that his descendants lived and flourished.

Pirro family originated in ancient Greece and "Great Greece" or Magna Graecia, the name of the coastal areas of Southern Italy on the Tarentine Gulf that were extensively colonized by Greek settlers - Greek colonies and regions of ancient Italy and Sicily.
