Pinon's Imperial Pigeon

The Pinon's Imperial Pigeon (Ducula pinon) is a species of bird in the Columbidae family. It is found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

Famous quotes containing the words imperial and/or pigeon:

Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore.
    Apocrypha. Ecclesiasticus, 44:14.

The line “their name liveth for evermore” was chosen by Rudyard Kipling on behalf of the Imperial War Graves Commission as an epitaph to be used in Commonwealth War Cemeteries. Kipling had himself lost a son in the fighting.

They wait, each like a wooden decoy
or soft like a pigeon or
    a sweet snug duck:
until one moves, moves that dart-beak
    breaking over.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
