Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School - History

History

The school was named for Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the twentieth Prime Minister of Canada. The original school, the North Arm School, was founded in 1885. In 1912, when the first Walter Moberly Elementary School was constructed at Ross Street and East 59th Avenue, the original two-room school became the Walter Moberly Annex, serving K-4.

The new school opened in September 2002, adding grades 4 through 7 to the school. In January 2003, the school expanded with additional classrooms, an administration wing, library, gym, multipurpose room and computer lab.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

To a surprising extent the war-lords in shining armour, the apostles of the martial virtues, tend not to die fighting when the time comes. History is full of ignominious getaways by the great and famous.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)

The steps toward the emancipation of women are first intellectual, then industrial, lastly legal and political. Great strides in the first two of these stages already have been made of millions of women who do not yet perceive that it is surely carrying them towards the last.
Ellen Battelle Dietrick, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 13, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)

... in America ... children are instructed in the virtues of the system they live under, as though history had achieved a happy ending in American civics.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)
