Piano Trio No. 1 (Arensky)

Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32, for violin, cello and piano is a Romantic chamber composition by Russian composer Anton Arensky. It was written in 1894 and is in four movements:

  1. Allegro moderato (9:50)
  2. Scherzo - Allegro molto (5:55)
  3. Elegia - Adagio (6:20)
  4. Finale - Allegro non troppo (5:50)

Although by a lesser-known composer, it is highly regarded and often considered the gem among Arensky's compositions.

The trio is dedicated to the memory of Karl Davydov.

The composer made a very early recording of the trio on wax cylinders, with himself at the piano, the violinist Jan Hřímalý and the cellist Anatoliy Brandukov. This recording was made shortly after its composition and is almost certainly its first recording, although it is not complete.

Famous quotes containing the word piano:

I will tell you what Jeanne was like. She was like a piano in a country where everyone has had their hands cut off.
