PhyloCode - Future

Future

The PhyloCode is controversial, and has inspired downright hostility from some taxonomists. The number of supporters for widespread adoption of the PhyloCode is still small, and it remains unclear, as of 2012, when the code will be implemented (if, indeed, this actually happens) and how widely it will be followed. Some supporters believe that it should only be implemented, at least at first, as a set of rules accompanying the associated registration database, RegNum, and that acceptance by the scientific community may proceed from the popularization of RegNum as a utility for finding clade names and definitions.

A list of published critiques of the PhyloCode can be found on the ISPN's website, as can a list of rebuttals.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

It has no future but itself—
    Its infinite contain
    Its past—enlightened to perceive
    New periods of pain.
    Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)

The Mind in Infancy is, methinks, like the Body in Embrio, and receives Impressions so forcible, that they are as hard to be removed by Reason, as any Mark with which a Child is born is to be taken away by any future Application.
    Richard Steele (1672–1729)

A fixed image of the future is in the worst sense ahistorical.
    Juliet Mitchell (b. 1940)
