It is one of the oldest stock exchanges in Southeast Asia, having been in continuous operation since its inception in 1927. The PSE is composed of a 15-man Board of Directors, chaired by José T. Pardo.

The main index for PSE is the PSE Composite Index or PSEi, which is composed of thirty (30) listed companies. The selection of companies in the PSEi is based on a specific set of criteria. There are also six additional sector-based indices.

Trading on the PSE trading starts at 9:30 am PST and ends at 12:00 pm, pauses for a 1 hour 30 minute break, and resumes trading from 1:30 pm to a 3:30 pm session closure.

Famous quotes containing the words stock and/or exchange:

    There exists, between people in love, a kind of capital held by each. This is not just a stock of affects or pleasure, but also the possibility of playing double or quits with the share you hold in the other’s heart.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

    I can exchange opinion with any neighbouring mind,
    I have as healthy flesh and blood as any rhymer’s had,
    But O! my Heart could bear no more when the upland caught the wind;
    I ran, I ran, from my love’s side because my Heart went mad.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
