Phantom Killer

Phantom Killer

The Phantom Killer was the unidentified serial killer of the Texarkana Moonlight Murders, the unsolved murders which inspired the accurately named movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown. He is credited for attacking eight people within ten weeks, five of whom were killed, usually three weeks apart. The attacks happened on weekends between February 22, 1946 through May 3, 1946. He is Texarkana's only known serial killer. The "Phantom Killer" title was not associated with the killer until the April 16, 1946 issue of the now defunct Texarkana Daily News, an evening companion to the Texarkana Gazette morning paper. The killer, also known as the Phantom Slayer, was never caught or convicted for the crimes. It is theorized, that The Phantom Killer could possibly be The Zodiac Killer, according to Corroborating Evidence author William T. Rasmussen.
