Gray Stone Day School

Gray Stone Day School, which opened in Fall 2002, is a charter high school, meaning it is a public school but does not receive funding from the state of North Carolina for land or buildings. Previously located in Pfeiffer's Harris Building, its philosophy has been "what better way to prepare for college than on a college campus". Gray Stone began planning for its own facility in 2005. Pfeiffer donated 18 acres of land and groundbreaking took place in April 2010. On January 4, 2011, Gray Stone students moved into a new $7 million, 53,000-square-foot (4,900 m2) building. In 2012 the school opened a new wing of classrooms to accommodate the largest freshman class in school history.

Famous quotes containing the words gray, stone, day and/or school:

Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep.
    —Thomas Gray (1716–1771)

Why silk is soft and the stone wounds
The child shall question all his days,
Why night-time rain and the breast’s blood
Both quench his thirst he’ll have a black reply.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Often in winter the end of the day is like the final metaphor in a poem celebrating death: there is no way out.
    Agustin Gomez-Arcos (b. 1939)

Today, only a fool would offer herself as the singular role model for the Good Mother. Most of us know not to tempt the fates. The moment I felt sure I had everything under control would invariably be the moment right before the principal called to report that one of my sons had just driven somebody’s motorcycle through the high school gymnasium.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
