Controversy

In October 2012,(http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/2012/10/11/prhc-class-action-lawsuit-to-go-ahead) the lawyer heading the effort to start a class-action lawsuit over the breach of privacy of more than 280 patients at Peterborough Regional Health Centre said he will seek to launch the action before the end of the year.Several of the affected patients have spoken publicly about having their medical records snooped by hospital staff who weren’t involved in treating them. Some have said they had been the victims of earlier breaches at the hospital last year, and that they received letters in the fall informing them of the situation.

In April 2010 the Central East Ontario Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) conducted a "peer review" of the operations of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) with the explicit goal of finding permanent financial savings to address a chronic budget deficit the hospital had experienced for many years. The review team filed their final report in late April, recommending that 151 staff and 71 beds be eliminated.

The release of the report was met with public backlash. There was concern regarding the impact such cuts would have on the future of PRHC, whether it would be able to continue in its role as a regional referral hospital, and the impact on the Peterborough and regional economy.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
