Peter Mc Leod - 1985 Australian GT

1985 Australian GT

Peter McLeod continued to race his Slick 50 RX-7 in the 1985 Australian GT Championship. He performed consistently during the series to finish 5th, his best finish being 3rd at Adelaide. Unfortunately the 13B engined Mazda was still in CAMS production based Group C trim that it finished 1984 in and was seriously outgunned by specially built cars such as Bryan Thompson's 4.2L Chevrolet powered, twin turbo Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC and his newly acquired 6.0L Chevy Monza (the Monza had easily won the 1984 Championship in the hands of Allan Grice), and Kevin Bartlett's ground effects De Tomaso Pantera. Thompson would win the title driving both the Merc and the Monza.

Following the 1985 championship the GT series wasn't seen on the Australian calendar until 2005.

Famous quotes containing the word australian:

Beyond the horizon, or even the knowledge, of the cities along the coast, a great, creative impulse is at work—the only thing, after all, that gives this continent meaning and a guarantee of the future. Every Australian ought to climb up here, once in a way, and glimpse the various, manifold life of which he is a part.
    Vance Palmer (1885–1959)
