Peter Gunnarsson Rambo - Origin of The Name

Origin of The Name

It is speculated that the name Rambo was derived from a shortened form of "Ramberget" plus "bo". Ramberget (or "Raven Mountain") is located on the island of Hisingen, which today is part of Gothenburg. Translation of "bo" from Swedish to English is "resident" or "nest". It is known that Peter Gunnarsson lived in or near Gothenburg before leaving for New Sweden, and in Gunnarsson's time, the island of Hisingen was mostly farmland.

Famous quotes containing the words origin of the, the name, origin of and/or origin:

The real, then, is that which, sooner or later, information and reasoning would finally result in, and which is therefore independent of the vagaries of me and you. Thus, the very origin of the conception of reality shows that this conception essentially involves the notion of a COMMUNITY, without definite limits, and capable of a definite increase of knowledge.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)

Do not ask the name of the person who seeks a bed for the night. He who is reluctant to give his name is the one who most needs shelter.
    Victor Hugo (1802–1885)

In the woods in a winter afternoon one will see as readily the origin of the stained glass window, with which Gothic cathedrals are adorned, in the colors of the western sky seen through the bare and crossing branches of the forest.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The origin of storms is not in clouds,
our lightning strikes when the earth rises,
    spillways free authentic power:
dead John Brown’s body walking from a tunnel
to break the armored and concluded mind.
    Muriel Rukeyser (1913–1980)
