Persipura Jayapura

Persipura, an acronym for Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Jayapura is a professional football club based in Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia. The tautology Persipura Jayapura is often used in local media.

The team nickname is "The Black Pearls" or Mutiara Hitam. Persipura competes in the top division in Indonesian football. Persipura's stadium is known as the Mandala Stadium, which has a capacity of over 25,000 spectators.

In Indonesia's second division, Persipura Jayapura were crowned champion in the 1979 and 1993 seasons. Despite its success, the team was still not able to appear competitive on the national football stage, until they succeeded in winning the top flight in 2005. Between 2009–2011 Persipura already had 2 trophies of Indonesian Super League. They took a first place in 2009–2010 term. Persipura also took a second place during 2010–2011 and also become a runner up for Indonesian Cup. They lost 2-1 to Sriwijaya FC in the final. After that term they use transfer window to strengthen their team and also they keep the old coach. During this 2011–2012 season, Persipura finally took the first place at Indonesian Super League and won a qualifying spot for the 2012 AFC Champions League.
