Controversies

Recently matter of forced labor work from juniors in Production Setup was raised. This is either done by blackmailing juniors into:

  • Thinking that they may be retained into the hostel if they work in PAF Prod work
  • If a fresher has already been retained, telling that they will be given better rooms in sophomore year for their work.
  • Those contesting for Hostel Secretary posts are asked to work in PAF to show their 'enthusiasm'.
  • Hostel secretaries are forced to write clause "I would work enthusiastically in PAF" and later in sophomore year this clause is used to blackmail them into working labor.

A recent notice generated from office of Dean (SA) saying all Juniors need not work in PAF if they are not enthusiastic about it. But problem of forced work by Hostel secretaries still persists.

One source of displeasure for some of the professors at IIT Bombay is that many students get so involved in the activities that they skip classes to work for the PAF.
