The Xstrata Percival Portrait Award is a biennial portraiture award in Townsville, Queensland sponsored by the global mining company Xstrata. Entries are required to "demonstrate some connection to Townsville" as well as "generating a North Queensland flavour and celebrating the identities in the community". All accepted works in the award demonstrate some link to Townsville. The link "can be the subject, the artist or the artist’s history", and works are accepted regardless of whether this link is "direct or tenuous". The major prize for 2012 was $40,000, contributed by gallery sponsor Xstrata.

“The award of a pure gold medal for poetry would flatter the recipient unduly: no poem ever attains such carat purity.”
