Peninsula Humane Society - Policies

Policies

The Peninsula Humane Society has been a force in humane education since the early 1980s. In the mid 1980s PHS the Board of Directors embarked on a substantial campaign to create policies on animal welfare, which were promulgated to enhance animal care within the county and also influenced state and national awareness of animal care. Topics of policy addressed included humane treatment of farm animals, policies on trophy hunting, spaying/neutering and other medical procedures on pets. The organization has been active in promoting awareness of the need for pet population control, through spay and neuter programs as well as finding homes for animals.

Famous quotes containing the word policies:

A nation’s domestic and foreign policies and actions should be derived from the same standards of ethics, honesty and morality which are characteristic of the individual citizens of the nation.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

To deny the need for comprehensive child care policies is to deny a reality—that there’s been a revolution in American life. Grandma doesn’t live next door anymore, Mom doesn’t work just because she’d like a few bucks for the sugar bowl.
Editorial, The New York Times (September 6, 1983)

We urgently need a debate about the best ways of supporting families in modern America, without blinders that prevent us from seeing the full extent of dependence and interdependence in American life. As long as we pretend that only poor or abnormal families need outside assistance, we will shortchange poor families, overcompensate rich ones, and fail to come up with effective policies for helping families in the middle.
    Stephanie Coontz (20th century)
